5th Gear encourage you to comparison shop before completing a booking on our site - with 5th Gear Discount Rates there are NO hidden charges. Everything included in your rental is clearly outlined during the booking proccess and detailed on
your rental voucher - there are 'No hidden extras'.
Terms and condirtions specific to each vehicle and location will appear as you proceed through the booking process - these will also be emailed to you once you
have requested a reservation.
General Summary
5th Gear will arrange your vehicle rental requirements with a reputable
car rental company. Once you have booked your vehicle you will
receive confirmation of your booking in the form of a voucher. Please note
that the voucher is not a rental agreement but just confirmation of the
collection date, collection time, collection address and the return details.
It will also include a summary of what you have paid so far and what you
need to pay to the car rental company. You will need to present this voucher
at the car rental office on collection of the vehicle and you will have to
sign it and give the voucher to them, this will guarantee 5th Gear rates as detailed ont he voucher. At this point you will receive a
Rental Agreement from the Car rental Company.

Not Included
Fuel: Customers are advised to return vehicle full of fuel (or at the same level when collected). Our suppliers charge the prevailing rate.
Parking Fines, London Congestion Charges and other fines
Insurance
CDW -
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces the renter's liability from the total cost of the damage, to an excess amount, normally between £500 and £1000 where applicable unless the renter intentionally causes the damage, is under the influence of drink or drugs or uses the vehicle in a prohibited or negligent way. CDW covers liability for damage to the vehicle or its parts and accessories. However certain items may not be covered, tyres, windscreens, under carriage, replacement keys, replacement locks. For peace of mind it may be worth double checking with the rental company.
5th Gear Limited does not provide insurance, coverage is provided by the rental company as indicated - if you have selected additional coverage such as excess reduction, or young driver's surcharge, you must sign the insurance form provided by the rental company at collection.
Theft Waiver
In the event of theft or damage because of theft (or attempted) (TW) reduces the renter's liability to an excess amount where applicable. If there is negligence connected with the theft of the vehicle the rental company requires the full amount for the cost of the vehicle.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Please check carefully with the rental company about the details of the insurance provided by them as sometimes third party cover excludes blood relatives and members of your immediate family or members of the same home address who travel with you in the vehicle. Additional policies will normally be available to purchase directly from the rental company or such cover may already be included in your holiday insurance.
Age limits
In most cases the driver must be over the age of 25 and under 75. However some Rental companies allow drivers aged 21 and over. In these cases an extra 'young drivers' charge may apply and the Insurance excess may well be increased
Documentation
Your voucher will normally be dispatched within 3 hours during a working day (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm) of us receiving your booking request, providing that full arrival details have been advised; i.e. flight number and arrival time or a local address and telephone number. Please note that certain "request" vehicles may take longer to confirm & we will advise if this is the case. 5th Gear cannot be held responsible for rentals charged locally or rejected if a voucher is not presented when collecting the vehicle from the local supplier. Please ensure you travel with your full valid national driving licence and passport, if applicable.
Payment by credit or debit card at the rental desk will require additional ID such as passport and utility bill
Deposits
Local Deposits & Petrol
On collection of your rental car the car rental companies require a deposit to cover petrol, liability excess and other charges incurred during the hire. A valid major credit card will be required in most cases and this must be in the lead driver's name. Assuming that the car & extras are returned in the same state as rented & in accordance with the fuel policy, this deposit will be refunded when returning the vehicle.
Vehicles
All vehicles are insured for a maximum number of passengers. 5th Gear cannot accept liability for the vehicle being unsuitable for all passengers and luggage. 5th Gear cannot accept responsibility for rentals denied at our local supplier's counter due to the party size being too large for the vehicle or for any person considered unfit to drive or who does not meet eligibility requirements.5th Gear will not be liable for the completion of travel arrangements, nor for any refund, compensation or any other costs you may have to pay.
5th Gear is unable to guarantee a particular make or model of vehicle. The car shown on your voucher is for guidance only and may be substituted for an alternative similar model or upgraded vehicle.
Cancellation and amendments
You will not be charged a cancellation fee if you need to cancel or make an amendment when advised 24 hrs prior to the rental start date. All cancellations should be made with 5th Gear Limited and will be confirmed with a cancellation number - failure to obtain a cancellation number will result in no refund being issued. Should the customer cancel less than 24hrs notice prior to the rental start date or not show up to collect the vehicle, a no show fee equal to the first 2 days of the rental will be charged.
No refunds are offered for rentals that are terminated early or collected late unless pre-arranged with 5th Gear.
Licence
Each driver must present a clean and current driving licence in her/his name, held for a minimum period of 12 months. In the case of a 2 part UK driving licence both parts must be shown. Drivers with foreign driving licences must present their own national licence plus an International Driving Licence if it is not in the local language ie English. EU licences do not require an International Driving Licence as the EU licence is already translated into English.
Foreign residents in the UK may drive on their non-UK driving licenses for up to one year from commencement of residency. A Passport is required for proof of entry date.
If you have endorsements on your licence it may not be possible to hire a vehicle. If you have more than 6 points for speeding or have a DD, DR,IN, CD or BA endorsement which is less than 10 years old you may not be able to hire a vehicle. Please contact us if you are in doubt as a refund cannot be given if a rental is refused due to licence endorsements. To hire a minibus you need to have held a licence with category D1 for 3 years. A licence may have a restriction to the number of seats in a vehicle, which the licence holder is entitled to drive. For most European countries this is 8 plus driver.
To Drive a vehicle with more than 9 seats the driver must hold a UK licence with a category D1.
Mechanical Difficulties/Accidents
In the case of breakdown or mechanical difficulties, you must call the rental company immediately. An emergency number is provided within the vehicle to contact the rental company and the relevant breakdown company. The Rental Company must give authority for repairs or replacement cars. If you are involved in an accident, the local police and the local rental company MUST be contacted. Keep copies of any relevant documents you are asked to complete. This may be needed if you wish to make an insurance claim
Partial Payment
If the lead driver is the card holder then a partial payment will be taken to secure the reservation with our supplier at the reservation/confirmation stage. All payments are clearly shown during the booking process and are clearly printed on your confirmation voucher.
When you recieve 5th Gear confirmation voucher, you will have already been charged in part for your rental at time of confirmation of your reservation, the will be clearly shown. The balance detailed onthe voucher is due upon presentation of this voucher and is excluding ANY additional extras not displayed above that you may order/agree with the supplying company - which would be in addition to this sum.
5th Gear Limited will ahve arranged your rental with the car rental company shown on the voucher. This voucher is not a rental agreement - when you collect your vehicle you must sign a rental agreement provided by the rental company.
Flight details
5th Gear must be provided with your flight number and arrival time for all airport bookings. No responsibility is accepted for a failed/delayed rental due to failure to provide flight information. This helps the rental company in the case of flight delays
Excess reduction
Excess reduction is available at the time of booking. Further insurance options are available upon collecting your vehicle - all aditional options decided at the time of rental and in adition to those booked online must be paid for locally.
Rental period
All rentals are based on 24 hour periods. A full day rental charge is applied for any portion of a day that the vehicle is used. Should you wish to extend your rental you must contact 5th Gear before your rental is due to expire.

If you have booked the above services they are included in your rental quote.
Delivery/collection
If you have requested a delivery/collection then you delivery/collection address and contact telephone number must be provided. This service is provided by the rental company and 5th Gear cannot be held responsible if the address details are incorrect or if the delivery/collection is not on schedule.
Additional Driver
It is possible to arrange for additional drivers to be added on to the insurance; provided that they have the necessary drivers licence and are within the age limits.
Young Driver
In some circumstances it is possible to rent a vehicle or be an additional driver if you fall below the normal age requirement of the rental company. There is normally a charge for this and the vehicle choice is limited. The insurance excess applicable in most cases will also increase.
Car seats
In some circumstances it is possible to pre-order child seats. Baby seats and booster seats with rental companies. At least 7 days notice must be given.5th Gear cannot be liable for the correct seat being supplied and fitted
Congestion charge
A London Congestion Charge applies for vehicles entering or moving within the Zone from Monday - Friday between 07.00 - 18.00 - except on public holidays. Charges are £8.00 per day payable either in advance or before midnight on the day of entering the Zone. This charge increases to £10.00 if paid after midnight on the day of entering the Zone and the driver has until midnight on the next charging day to make this £10.00 payment. It is the CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY to register the rental vehicle and pay the charge. The rental company will not do this on the driver's behalf. Drivers will be liable to pay all penalties or fines related to late or non-payment of this charge plus a £29.38 administration fee for handling the penalty charges.
Travel overseas
Vehicles are not permitted to travel abroad without consent or prior agreement of 5th Gear - offered as an aditional extra during the booking process.
General Terms
All bookings are subject to 5th Gear's terms and conditions Bookings are confirmed once payment is made and the rental voucher has been sent to you.
Your hire of any vehicle from us is subject to the terms and conditions of vehicle hire imposed by the relevant car rental company and to the corresponding laws of the country and/or state that the rental takes place in. You are therefore subject both to both the terms of 5th Gear and those of the relevant car rental company.
The technical steps required for a contract to be formed are as follows:
When we quote prices over the telephone or place our services on our website we are inviting you to make an offer for their purchase. You do not make this offer until you do so verbally or by pressing "Book Now"
5th Gear will then accept this offer when it has both received payment and has sent you your confirmation voucher. Once done there is a binding contract between you and 5th Gear for the delivery of its services subject to these terms.
5th Gear shall not be liable itself or vicariously through our car rental suppliers for either a failure to perform or delay in performing any of its obligations under or pursuant to this booking, voucher, reservation, rental or terms and conditions, if and in so far as performance is delayed, hindered or prevented by force majeure, which expression shall mean any event beyond the reasonable control of the party in question. In the event that the force majeure persists for more than 14 consecutive days, 5th Gear may terminate and withdraw this booking, reservation or rental by giving 14 days notice to you at your original billing address.
You, the renter, shall fully indemnify and keep fully indemnified 5th Gear from and against all losses, costs (including legal) and damages incurred by 5th Gear as a result of a breach by you of our terms.
5th Gear provides no warranties or undertakings other than those that are expressed in our terms.
